I use a different email folder for each game I play. If the game is on a judge then the labeling is sufficient to use the subject line for sorting. In hand adjudicated games, I'll create an email address for the game so that if someone writes to chris.bellicus@asciiking.com then I would know it's about the game Bellicus.

Many mail clients have features where you can mark mail as important or even color code it. I'll usually leave the results of an adjudication marked unread (after I've read them) and important until my orders are final. When negotiations are tight for time, I propose an action that I will take if a deadline for response is not met. By taking responsibility to be on-line at a given time before the deadline expires and providing a contingency, I can improve time management for myself and an ally while improving our play.

There are several helper applications out there - Diplo, DipTool, jDip and RealPolitik to name a few. These might be broken by future Windows or Java releases depending on the platform. I've tried using organizer applications in both my phone and on my computer. Those don't do much for me, but that's because they aren't part of my normal work flow already.

Again, I have big plans for USAK in terms of usability and work flows, but some of the more advanced ideas require major reworking of the judge internals. It's happening, but above are some things that you can do now.

That's very helpful, Chris. Thanks. Do you (or does anyone else) have any other lesser known/"non-obvious" tips that help with game management?

If you change it from "No" to "Yes" then it stays changed until you change it or Floc receives new results for the game from the judge. It might conceivably have some application as a time management device. If someone was really consistent about clicking "yes" when they submit orders, only clicking "yes" when they submit orders, and always clicking "yes" on the right row when they submit orders then they could look at those flags and know which games they had already submitted orders for.

That is probably easier for other people than it is for me, so I'm working on something similar but different for the USAK site. There will be buttons for orders, draw or wait with labels that indicate the current status and the function of changing that status:

+--Not Ordered---------+--No Wait-------------+--No Draw-------------+
|......................|......................|......................|
|......................|......................|......................|
|....DRAFT ORDERS......|..SET WAIT............|...SET DRAW...........|
|......................|......................|......................|
|......................|......................|......................|
+----------------------+----------------------+----------------------+

There are some obvious advantages to implementing this on the judge itself. :-)

What does the "Flag" column mean and what happens if you change the setting from "No" to "Yes?"
